GIFT IN A BIBLE

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months, he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s show room and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As graduation day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car.

Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somehow disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name engraved in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money, you give me a bible?” and stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his fathers, house, sudden sadness and regret filled his head. He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago.

With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse; Mt.7:11  “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation and the words, “PAID IN FULL”.

What a shock!! What a sad moment!! What a flood of tears on his cheeks!!

Heb. 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”.

All we need is in the word of God. Those who have discovered this truth have found the true meaning of life. To overcome Satan and his demons, our weapon is the word of God, without it fully and powerfully operating in our lives, we are weaker and unable to overcome the enemy. Lk.10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. The word of God is the key to life.

Therefore, let us once again put on the full armour of God so that we are able to defeat Satan bearing in mind that we are given authority which operates if we let Jesus in the centre of our lives. 2Tim 3:16 “All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works”.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

“I am born again, preacher, worshipper (in choir), and I am on church committee. I love the lord with all my heart and I try to do all his word says. But sometimes, I feel bound by evil habits (extreme anger, masturbation, fornication, lust, Telling lies, corruption, un-forgiveness, Hatred, cheating on my partner, etc.), and I feel so weak to pray and to read the Bible but I always repent to God.

This habit has taken over me, I try to overcome but after a while I fall in it again. I don’t want to go to hell”, He/she said.

Help the brother or sister; don’t let him/her go hell. What should he/she do? Or what could be the problem according to you? (Ref. Mt.5:27-30)

MEMORY VERSE

2Tim 3:1 “But know this also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away”.
